There are many reasons why I decided to set out on my own and start my new business. I guess I was born with an entrepreneurial bug. My mother has always owned her own business. She sells advertising specialty products. Our small apartment was always filled with product catalogs showcasing the various products: calendars, pens, t-shirts, jackets, keychains, and on and on. If you can put a logo on it, my mom has a book for it. There was always tons of paper everywhere. It always felt more like an office than a typical home. The phone would constantly ring with orders and the fax machine would constantly hum. I got to see the first hand the excitement, the chaos, the highs and lows of being a small business owner.
I always admired my mother’s drive, her vision, and her optimism. Sometimes I would just laugh at her when she would share her BIG ideas with me. I thought some of these ideas were so out of the realm of reality, but now I understand this is a trait of all small business owners. Vision.
Her story is similar to many Hispanic small business owners, who have felt they couldn’t compete with other companies that have a larger reach due to financial strength or size, or something as basic as being fluent in English and selling to a larger market. Now add the Internet and mobile to the mix, and the challenges get even larger.
Throughout my 14-year marketing career, I have helped many large brands market their products and services by developing the best strategies using a variety of methods such as, TV, radio, direct mail, outdoor media, e-mail, and web. Now I look to help companies like my mother’s. Business owners who have the drive to sell great product or provide amazing service, but either do not have the budgets for large campaigns, or the knowledge on where to start, or even the time to handle all the internet strategies that would help their business.
My mother is a great salesperson. Her strengths are building relationships with her clients, giving them the products they needs, and growing her business. I wouldn’t want her to spend her time worrying about the latest in SEO, social media, blogging, and all the latest WordPress updates. She just needs to be certain that an expert is handling this for her with her goals and branding in mind.
That’s my goal for my company. To help small business owners succeed and grow. We’ll provide the strategic marketing know-how, so you can continue to do what you do best.
I’m ready. How about you?
